China Town - worth a wander, lots of street art
Brickfields - Indian area of restaurants and shops
Merdeka Square - the old centre, with historical buildings and a cricket pitch
The 'River of Life' network of cycle paths - it's not quite perfect, but if you're happy occasionally carrying your bike down some stairs you'll be fine
Perdana Botanical Gardens (near the centre) - a large area of parks including the Bird Park which is a little expensive but great
Taman Tugu - a bit of city-centre jungle with many trails, within walking distance of the centre
Between 7 and 9 am every Sunday, the roads are closed in the centre of KL
There's a party atmosphere on the streets with loud music and food trucks along the street near Merdeka square
It's the best way to see the city and especially get near to the Twin Towers
You can also ride along the 'River of Life' after it's finished and explore the city
This area in the centre of KL city is a last hold out from the property developers
All the houses are low rise and colourful, yet they're surrounded by huge skyscrapers and residential high rise
There are still markets here, as there are out of the city
It makes for some good photo opportunities
Free to go into the main caves up the stairs
Don't have any food out, you will be mugged by monkeys
An excellent half day of exploration
There are lots of separate little caves around the edge with strange little reptile zoo's or tunnels with odd hindu statues. Definitely worth an open-minded look
Around the back there is a climbing place that is recommended
An excellent waterfall about 40 minutes ride away
You pay a small fee to enter or park your car and there are lots of little stalls and local restaurants
The falls are big, and go on forever
Keep walking up the steps to get away from the crowds, it's definitely worth it
When you get to what looks like the top, take a right and climb up the very steep trail to the real top, where there are no people and some pools to sit in with fantastic views. Hardly anyone goes to the top.
Bukit Tabur ('Crystal Ridge' or 'Klang Gates') - an amazing ridge of quartzite rock north of the city, go early, and only if you don't mind heights or scrambling. It's intense!
You park at, or ride to, the bottom of the path and then head up the side of the hill.
It is very steep and very exposed
There has been talk in the past of preventing people going up, but it is so much fun, and all you need to do is be a little bit careful.
Our son has been climbing up it since he was 4 years old. He used to think it was the most fun anyone could ever have.
